Lets Dance

About Us PDF

As well as holding regular classes we compete at dancing festivals against other RSL Youth Clubs which are affiliated under the NSW Combined RSL Youth Clubs.   There are currently 12 affiliated clubs. Nominations/ elections are held each year for position holders on the combined committee.  Also, each club elects delegates to attend the combined meeting held each month.

Most of these clubs hold a festival each year at locations around Sydney (our festival is held each October at the Marconi Club, Bossley Park).  At the end of each year a “combined” festival is held which is organized by a working committee comprising the Combined Executive plus volunteers.

Dancers at the festivals are grouped according to age and grade ie, under 10, under 13,  under 16, under 19 and under 25 - commencing with Novice, then Intermediate, Advanced and A Grade.   Progression to a higher grade occurs after a certain number of wins in their current grade.

A code of ethics applies to all students in RSL Youth Clubs and is recited by students at the end of each class.  We also have our own set of rules.  See website area Code of Ethics.

Each year we have an election for a dancing committee comprising the following positions:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Junior Vice President/ Registrar
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

General meetings are held every two months to allow the committee/ parents the opportunity to discuss matters generally and put forward ideas and suggestions.  Fundraising is an important function to allow us to finance end of year parties/ functions, buy club jackets etc.

Each year we also call for nominations for the following non-Executive positions and encourage as many people as possible to become involved:

  • Assistant Secretary
  • Assistant Treasurer
  • Fundraiser
  • Delegates to Combined meetings
  • Delegates to Youth Club meetings
  • Uniform Officers
  • Social Secretary
  • Publicity Officer
